Should have made it a four day weekend..
7:55 Benjamin pukes. Multiple times. In his bookbag. On his bookbag. Shirt and pants. Everything. Takes every fiber of my being not to throw up while helping him get cleaned up and settled in the office.
8:00 Head back to room to relieve Tutor who watched my kids. Justin hands me an epi-pen. What? “There’s a note in my folder.”
8:05 TraNi’yah walks in. Cell phone in hand. *yoink* “But my dad said I could bring it! My brother made me!” Note to self: call mom.
8:10 Folder check. Fernando brought his field trip money. And his mom is going. Praise the Lord for good chaperones. Read Justin’s note. Hospital. Uh-huh. We’re not following his diet. Uh-huh. Epi-pen. Awesome.
8:15 Bring kids to Gym. No sub. 10 minutes later, sub finally shows up.
8:20 Secretary: “Justin’s mom called. Call her back.” Ugh.
8:23 Go get nurse to back me up on this diet/epi-pen crap. She volunteers to make the call since it’s medical. Mom accuses us of forcing him to eat things that he’s allergic too. Yes, you know how teachers get their jollies from forcing food down kids’ throats. She’s going to call the school lunch company and the Superintendent. Great. Tell her we said hello.
[In all actuality, we could file for neglect. He’s allergic to milk, cheese and eggs yet she never sends anything supplemental for his lunch. She gets the menu so she knows what he will be served each day and has waited this long to even ask if we give alternate choices. We don’t. Basically the kid has been surviving the day on crackers for breakfast and whatever vegetable and juice is for lunch. I’m sure lack of a meal mixes well with his seizure meds.]
8:45 Send home paperwork that has already been sent home and never came back before about Restricted Diet. Issue another menu. And another request for doctor’s orders for epi-pen. We can’t use it until we have orders. Place bets on what will come back and how long it will take.
8:47 Finally get into grade level meeting. AKA waste of my time that occurs every Tuesday to hear the same thing.
8:55 Yell at the clock for stealing my plan time.
Yes, friends. All of that happened before 9:00.
Had to wait until lunch to call TraNi’yah’s mom. As usual, always apologetic but nothing ever changes. Dad came in to get the phone a little while later. TraNi’yah cried.
Other notes:
- Ariana hacked her way through the day
- Skylar had a headache the entire day. Poor thing. Called home, mom said she’d be fine.
- Giane used almost a whole box of Kleenex on her own.
- Skylar and Roberto were so miserable, they chose to rest during Centers.
- Taleah made it into the Hundred Club!
- We did our George Crum potato chip project [It was the most delicious work we’ve done!]
And to think, I was so excited because I had 13 of 20 kids today. What were the odds that it was going to suck as much as it did?
